A monitoring template defines the parameters required to monitor target resources consistently across your environment. Templates allow you to collect behavioral and performance metrics from servers, applications, networks, storage, database instances, and other infrastructure components across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
A monitoring template specifies the following:

  • Which data to collect
  • How to collect the data
  • Data collection frequency
  • The type of collector to use to collect the data (e.g., SNMP, VMware API)

Templates standardize monitoring by allowing you to apply consistent configurations across similar types of resources. Templates can be assigned on a resource or a group of resources of the same type using Template-based Alert Definitions.
